My first ever LELO product, the Luna Beads Mini were kindly sponsored by the late Nick from DOM-estics.co.uk in exchange for this review! Unfortunately, since he and his site are no longer with us, I have decided to use affiliate links in this review, pointing to Lovehoney.
Rating: ★★★★☆ 4/5
I was offered the chance to review these when I asked out on Twitter for someone to sponsor me a new kegel exerciser. The one I had was very painful for me to insert and the retrieval string was made from silicone, which meant taking them out was painful as well. When Nick asked me what I’d like to review, I jumped at the chance of getting the LELO Luna Beads Mini since they’re designed for women like me who haven’t had children and are under 30 years old.
If you fit that category, then read on!
The Luna Beads Mini come in a standard-looking box, which has pictures of the beads on the back and front as well as a blurb about how kegel exercisers are good for you. Inside the first box is a second one which is white all over apart from the LELO lettering which seems to be gold. This white box has slight texture to it and feels lovely to touch. It is a beautiful box and perfect for gift giving.
The inner box opens up to display the kegel exerciser lying quite comfortably half-in and half-out of some holes. The pink beads come inside the kegel exerciser sheath and the blue ones sit underneath in their own holes. This is pretty good because it means you can pack them away safely each time without having to worry about them rolling out of the box.
When you lift this component out, the inside of it is filled with extras. These extras are a black silky bag to keep the Luna Beads Mini in, a small sachet of LELO brand lube, the instruction manual and an authenticity card. This card also acts as a way to register the warranty for the Luna Beads Mini, which lasts for a year.
Now, let’s talk about the kegel exerciser itself. The LELO Luna Beads Mini is composed of three parts. These are the white sheath, the pink beads and the blue beads. The white case is very soft and easy to bend, which makes putting the balls in and taking them out much easier. It also has a hole in one of the ends to indicate which ball to put where and makes for a very safe entrance and exit.
The beads provided in this set are pretty cool. The pink Luna Beads Mini are the lightest of the two, weighing 28 grams. When you wear them both you will be wearing 56 grams in your vagina. The blue beads are heavier, weighing in at 37 grams each. These weigh 74 grams together. Both sets of beads are made in the same way; with a textured edge around them that helps when you want to ease them into the silicone holder. A great thing about this kegel exerciser is that you can customise the weight however you like; the Luna Beads Mini can match or be separate colours at either end, which gives you 4 different versions of the experience. ⏎
The sheath that the beads go into is made from silicone. The beads themselves are made from ABS plastic, which is body safe. Both of these materials can be sterilised or washed pretty much however you see fit, though there are exceptions*. The metal balls inside of the beads are supposedly made from silver but since it doesn’t actually come into contact with your body this isn’t a big deal. The retrieval string is apparently made from nylon, according to Dangerous Lilly, which is a hygienic material. Nylon is leagues better than silicone for a retrieval cord though, since it won’t stretch and will allow you to pull the Luna Beads Mini out with ease. ⏎
The way that you use these Luna Beads Mini is very simple; you lube them up and slowly push them into your vagina, starting with the string-less ball first. If you only want to use one ball at a time, you do not need to use the silicone harness provided and can just push the stringed ball inside yourself. You should always make sure you can grasp the retrieval cord when you have inserted them, so that you can pull them back out when the time comes.
When I started using these, the first thing I did was use the paired pink ones daily for a week. The times I had them inside myself were somewhat varied, due to my lack of privacy and generally forgetful nature. Sometimes I had them in for around an hour whereas other times it was closer to three. This didn’t make a difference for me when I removed them though; it just seemed to be as easy each time. The first time I had sex during my use of these was the 4th or 5th day and Daddy said that he definitely felt a difference. I also seemed to feel that he was bigger than usual but am unsure if it was just in our heads.
The second week was a bit rougher for me than the first, because the additional weight of the first blue ball was difficult for me to cope with. It turned out well after the first two days though, as I seemed to adjust pretty quickly. It became as easy as inserting both pink balls. However, at this point I discovered I could make stimulation when I was lying on my side by rocking my hips back and forth which made me feel a bit more sore when I took them out later.
The third week made things more difficult. In honesty, I probably wasn’t ready to jump up when I did. The blue balls were very heavy and they kept trying to fall out when I was walking around. They were great when I was sitting down, but that doesn’t really exercise you all that much so it wasn’t really good enough. I found it quite painful when they started to protrude from my vagina and into my vulva because the added weight pressed down on my labia and crushed them a little. I continued trying to rock my hips on my side with these in but it was mostly painful. It didn’t feel pleasurable to me anyway since my inner sensitivity isn’t great but the discomfort was off-putting.
Unfortunately I didn’t manage to finish the third week in one go because I ended up having to go to a wedding during it. You’ll see why I couldn’t use them during the visit in the wear section below. On top of that, the hotel had no air conditioning at all so it was too hot to try using beads anyway. I didn’t use the beads for around 10 days in a row after that, partly due to laziness and partly due to a lack of privacy.
When I tried them again for the first time after the break, they went in fairly easily and I seemed to accommodate them very well. Of course, that only really lasted until I started walking around and they slipped down again (ouch). Going straight back to the heaviest weight was silly of me but I didn’t want to have to build up again, as I’m sure you can understand. I did still feel like I had gotten tighter since using them but it’s difficult to gauge that sort of thing by yourself.
Now, I’m going to say some things that maybe I shouldn’t say because they might be irresponsible of me. So here are a bunch of disclaimers: Every person’s body is different and using the same toys does not always come with the same result. Your mileage may vary. I am not making any legal claims about what this product can do. Other things happened over the long testing period for these so the balls themselves may not even have been the cause. Hell, this might also have been in my head! Etc etc.
Here’s what I found after a while of using the LELO Luna Beads Mini: Whenever I took them out after a particularly long session with them in, my vagina felt a little empty and a little sad. Kind of like it wanted to have more things inside it. That’s a sensation I haven’t felt in a very long time (reasons why I stopped feeling it are unknown) and it surprised me. I was able to insert other toys inside myself and vaguely get some satisfaction out of it. I don’t think I woke up my g-spot more than before or anything and I certainly haven’t had any g-spot orgasms, but things feel a little different now. I like this change. ⏎
Damn these things are noisy! While I was wearing them I could hear the distinct sound of them rattling around, even through clothing! I decided to record the sound with my phone so that you can hear what is going on as well. There are two recordings, one at hip height (where children and people sitting down might hear) and one at chest height, which anyone standing will hear. The first one is at hip height: LELO Luna Beads Mini at hip height. The second recording is at chest height: LELO Luna Beads Mini at chest height. As you can hear, they’re not very subtle and for this reason I wouldn’t wear them outside or around other people. I did notice that if I walked around with my thighs pressed together I couldn’t hear them as much, but I don’t know if you’re going to want to consciously change how you walk with these.
You can definitely tell when they are inside you even without the sounds. Because they are weighted, I could feel them pushing down against my muscles when I walked and even when I was sitting. It wasn’t enough to worry me that they would fall out (though they tried) but it was enough for me to be conscious of them at all times. Over time I did find that I started to feel them a bit less but it depends on how long you build up your muscles.
Unfortunately my vagina still doesn’t feel inner pleasure so I can’t tell you whether the sensations these make are pleasurable or not – you’ll have to either read a different review or find out for yourself! ⏎
As I mentioned above in the materials section, this kegel exerciser has a few ways in which it can be cleaned. LELO themselves say to use warm water and antibacterial soap (hopefully without glycerin?), rinse with clean hot water and pat dry. They also said never to use cleansers that contain alcohol, petrol or acetone.
Since the aim of the LELO Luna Beads Mini is to keep it inside you for longish periods of time, I would recommend using a proper cleaning spray. The spray I used was the Lovehoney Fresh Toy Cleaner and I found no problems with it. I did, of course, rinse them under cold water before and after I scrubbed them with the spray so it may be that you just can’t leave that type of spray on too long.
It used to be recommended that you boil the beads but it has been discovered that if you do so, there may be a malfunction that would result in the metal balls inside rusting. If you want to make sure your beads last and can be protected by the warranty, I’d recommend following LELO‘s instructions just in case.
To keep them clean when you’re not using them, you can either put them back in the box or keep them in the lovely silky bag that LELO provides. As the picture above demonstrates, they fit inside it quite easily. ⏎
I find these difficult to rate because in a lot of ways I feel like I’m not getting the full measure of them. I mean, sure, if you can feel vaginal pleasure you will probably find them pleasurable but if you don’t feel things there in general it likely won’t make a difference. (See my disclaimers in the use section for more). As for whether they made me tighter, I think they did but there is a lot to be said for expectation and hoping that something will work.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that you should use these with low expectations. LELO say that it should take upwards of 12 weeks to make a real difference and I only really tested them over a 4 week period that was weirdly spread out towards the end. That’s not really a representative sample.
If we’re talking design, ease of cleaning and how simple they are to use, then these probably would get close to full marks based on that alone. I really liked them and they’re pretty cute. It’s just a shame they’re so damn noisy.
